TRAMA

Una escort, potenziale testimone in un caso dell'Unita' Vittime Speciali, viene trovata morta nel letto del capitano Cragen. L'Unita' Vittime Speciali, diffidata dall'occuparsi del caso, avvia un'indagine parallela per riuscire a inchiodare Delia Wilson sospettata di essere la reale responsabile sia dell'omicidio che della macchinazione ai danni del capitano.

Last season's cliffhanger finale ended with a blood-soaked Captain Cragen waking up next to Carissa, whose throat had been slit. The night of her murder, Carissa called Cragen because she feared for her life. Cragen met with Carissa in a diner, and at some point during the meal, Carissa slipped a sedative in Cragen's drink. Cragen became groggy, and Carissa helped him home; but Cragen has no idea how she wound up murdered. Upon discovering the grisly scene in his bedroom, Cragen immediately calls 911, then Detective Benson. She arrives moments before the police investigators show up, but Cragen can't remember anything. When the police arrive, Benson is asked to leave the scene of the crime, and Cragen is taken to the station for questioning. The SVU team gathers to review the facts and get to the bottom of Cragen's case. They're interrupted by a new interim captain, Captain Harris. Since the SVU unit will be under a microscope for a while, Captain Harris will be keeping a close eye on the SVU detectives, who are prohibited from investigating Cragen's case. He also introduces the squad to Paula Foster, head of the D.A.'s Public Integrity Unit, who will be handling Cragen's investigation. Benson has a side conversation with Paula Foster to explain the delicate nature of the case and defend Cragen. Foster says that she must approach the case without bias, but she knows that Benson won't leave Cragen's case alone. All she asks is that Benson keep her informed of any information that might help the case. Foster is tough, but she seems to genuinely want to help. Cragen's medical examination reveals more potentially damning evidence: scratches on his back from Carissa, his fingerprints on the knife, alcohol in his system and her saliva on certain body parts. Whoever framed Cragen did a fantastic job, and Cragen has a tough road ahead of him. Later in the interrogation room, Cragen explains the events of the previous evening to Paula Foster. According to Cragen, Carissa left several messages for him in which she claimed to have information about the former governor's murder. She asked to meet with him alone in a nearby diner, and then told Cragen that Amaro had been "inappropriate" with her, but Cragen didn't believe her. Meanwhile, Amaro corners Munch in the restroom to grill him for some background information about Cassidy. Amaro suspects that Cassidy might be more involved with Carissa than he lets on, and that perhaps Cassidy was involved in Carissa's murder. Munch and Benson meet with Cassidy on a rooftop. Cassidy tells the detectives that his boss, Ganzel, was in love with Carissa, and there's no way Ganzel would have murdered her. Cassidy bets that Delia, Ganzel's rival, was behind Carissa's death. By killing Carissa, Delia could hurt Ganzel and incriminate Cragen at the same time. Delia stops by Amaro's house to deliver a warning: she tells Amaro that Cassidy and Ganzel framed Cragen and that Cragen will throw Amaro under the bus if push comes to shove. Amaro firmly orders Delia to leave, but the information further stokes Amaro's suspicion of Cassidy. At his hearing, Captain Cragen is declared a potential flight risk. The judge orders that, while he is awaiting trial, Cragen will be held in solitary confinement at Rikers Island prison. Benson tells the other detectives that Cassidy suspects that Delia is to blame, but Amaro suggests that maybe Cassidy is protecting his boss, Ganzel, by pointing the finger at Delia. While interviewing Delia, Foster and Benson learn that Cragen has a past history with escorts. In fact, he's hired them on numerous occasions. Delia offers Foster and Benson a deal: if they throw out the charges against Delia, she won't allow her escorts to testify against Cragen. Meanwhile, Foster seems distracted because her daughter is battling a serious illness. After the meeting with Delia, Benson and Foster go over the facts. Foster tells Benson that the evidence is stacked up against her captain, and it's starting to seem like a simple open-and-closed case. Foster says that maybe Cragen isn't the man Benson thought he was, but Benson is still convinced that Delia is behind this. They decide to take a run at Iris, Delia's former booker, to find out if Carissa ever worked for Delia. Fin and Rollins head over to Iris' apartment to question her about a connection between Carissa and Delia. Iris tells the detectives that Carissa used to work for Delia, and that Carissa probably killed the governor to frame Delia, so Delia killed Carissa to frame Cragen and ruin Ganzel. When the detectives return for a follow-up interview the next day, they find Iris dead in her bathtub from an apparent suicide. The SVU team meets to discuss the details of the tangled investigation. During their conversation, they advise Amaro to stay out of the discussion because he spoke to Carissa the night she was murdered, which makes him a witness. Amaro suspects that Cassidy is behind the rumors of his involvement and possibly more than that. Benson and Munch meet with Cassidy to find out if Ganzel has any evidence that can incriminate Delia. Cassidy says he does have evidence against Delia, but getting it would raise Ganzel's suspicions and endanger his cover. Meanwhile, Captain Harris advises the rest of the SVU squad to back off of the Cragen investigation. Amaro decides to take his investigation of Cassidy to the next level. He interrupts Cassidy's lunch with his mother to grill him about his involvement with Ganzel and Delia. Amaro suspects that Cassidy is double-dealing with both parties. He pulls his gun on Cassidy, threatening to shoot him if Cassidy doesn't tell the truth...
