TRAMA

L'intera famiglia si ritrova unita al capezzale di Zeek, trasportato d'urgenza in ospedale per una nuova e grave crisi cardiaca. Le sue condizioni non lasciano tranquilli i familiari, soprattutto la moglie Camille che teme conseguenze irreversibili. Mentre sono in ospedale, Adam e Crosby scoprono che il Luncheonette e' stato completamente depredato di tutto, ma che l'assicurazione risarcira' per gran parte del valore dei beni rubati. Adam vorrebbe intascare la sua parte e lasciare l'attivita'. Hank chiede ad una piu' che sorpresa Sarah di sposarlo. Alla fine tutte le donne della famiglia organizzano, nella mensa dell'ospedale, la festa per il figlio di Amber che sta per nascere: ognuna di loro dedica un pensiero e un consiglio ad Amber su come affrontare e vivere le gioie e i momenti difficili della maternita'.

Camille's in a daze in the back of the ambulance after Zeek's late-night 911 call. She pep-talks her husband until they reach the hospital and the techs pull her way. Then there's nothing left to do but call the kids and hurry up and wait. Big surprise - the news reaches Julia while she's lying naked and awake next to her husband, their first night back together. Adam finds his mother crying in the hospital chapel. He tries to tell her everything will be okay, but she knows that's not necessarily true. This time, Zeek's trouble was bad, scary bad. It's a long night, and there's no news by morning, which is when Hank wakes up in bed alone. Surprised, he calls Sarah, who's just haranguing Julia: is she getting back together with Joel or what?! Hank wants to help, so Sarah sends him to pick up Drew, whose car has broken down, just as Joel enters the waiting room like a caffeine angel with an armload of coffee. Julia swoons, especially when Joel asks if he can stay. By the time Hank picks him up, Drew is extremely upset, which prompts Hank to chatter all the more nervously. They're not yet at the hospital when a new, young doctor offers the family some news: Zeek has stabilized. He did have a heart attack and he's not out of the woods yet, but he's safe enough to transfer to the ICU, where his regular doctor, Dr. Gordon will see him - eventually. It's going to be a couple more hours, and they're doing everything they can. With nothing happening, Camille sends Adam and Crosby to The Luncheonette to check out a reported break-in. The damage is worse than the brothers could have imagined. Everything of any value is simply gone. All business, Adam advises Crosby to keep calm. They have a great insurance policy and everything's going to be fine. He'll take care of everything so they can focus on Zeek. Sarah tells Hank he doesn't have to stick around, but when he spies Joel in the waiting room, he's determined to stay to support the family. That's when Camille remembers Amber's baby shower, scheduled for that night. Hank offers to call the restaurant, but Kristina scoops him; she knows the owner personally. Finally, Dr. Gordon checks into the waiting room. Zeek has stabilized, but he's still not sure what went wrong. It could be Zeek will need a couple stents - or it could be he'll need another valve surgery. He begs Camille's patience while they keep testing and tells her she can visit her husband - but he's not responsive. After the first wave of visits, it's Julia's turn. When Joel offers to accompany her, a nurse steps in: family members only. Julia doesn't hesitate to say Joel is her husband. But when they enter the room and she tells her dad Joel's there, the machines start beeping and Zeek goes into defib. Wide-eyed, Camille backs away as a crash team wheels him out of the room. Frantic, Julia rushes back to the waiting room to report back to her siblings. Luckily, Joel backs her up with his voice of reason. Zeek was stabilized and taken to the catheter lab to have stents inserted. Still trying to be helpful, Hank finds Drew feeling terrible in the cafeteria. The last thing Drew did was rat Zeek's anniversary plans to Camille - now that's how he'll be remembered. Zeek has been there for Drew over the years, way more than his own dad or any of the losers his mom brings around... Luckily, Hank has seen this situation from the other side. His daughter has said she hates him, but if something happened to him, that's not what would be on his mind. Parents don't hold on to any of that stuff. Back in the waiting room, Adam approaches Crosby, having just got off the phone with the insurance company. It's a miracle, but the numbers worked out in their favor with a big payout. They can reinvest in new equipment or take the money, pay off their debts and dissolve the business. They could pay Amber some severance and walk away with money for a fresh start! It's all too quick for Crosby, who needs time to think. That's when Camille walks in with good news. The stents are in and Zeek is finally awake and stable. All four siblings are gathered around his bed when Dr. Gordon stops by with an update. Zeek's heart is just not as strong as it needs to be and there's still fluid backing into his lungs, which is what started the whole business. Redoing the valve surgery is an option, but opening him back up is risky. And if he doesn't opt to do the surgery, there is a whole other set of risks. Option three - take some time, rest up and talk to the family. When they're finally alone, Zeek tells Camille he's not sure whether he's up for another surgery. They'll take some time, think it over and make the decision together - just the two of them. It's dark when Jasmine finds Crosby sitting in a funk outside the hospital. The only good news of the day is the big check from the insurance company. Jasmine's none too happy to hear about Adam's proposal to shutter the business. She'll support Crosby no matter what but she knows The Luncheonette is his dream and he shouldn't let anyone take it away from him. On the flip side, Kristina finds Adam deep in thought. How would she feel if he walked away from The Luncheonette? When Kristina asks what Crosby thinks, Adam says they're on the same page. The Luncheonette isn't making enough money and it's like a weight around Adam's neck. Would Kristina be all right if Adam lets it go? Even though she knows Adam's usual stance is to take care of everyone, Kristina promises her support if he wants to let the business go. Drew finds Hank sitting alone, envying Joel - he's not even married and he's the perfect husband! - but who can hate him? Hank admits he wants to be like Joel for Sarah. He doesn't want to be one of the losers, and Drew can tell him to shut up and kick him in the slats. Drew apologizes for implying that Hank is a loser. He's not; in fact, he's Drew's favorite out of his mom's losers, and Drew's glad Hank's around. Later, Sarah finds Hank outside the hospital. When she tells Hank to go home, he explains he wants to stay; he wants to be like Joel. All of a sudden, a deep rant starts, and Hank can't stop until he gets it out: he and Sarah should get married. Yeah. Hank doesn't want to be half in, now or ever. Speechless, Sarah promises they'll finish the conversation at a better time - which is fine with Hank, since she didn't say no. Later, Hank tells Joel all about the proposal over a beer with the Braverman men. They cheer - good luck to them both with women who haven't said no yet! Across the bar, Crosby tells Adam that one day they'll look back on the day their dad almost died and their business was robbed and laugh. Because everything's gonna be fine, and what's more, Crosby doesn't want to dissolve The Luncheonette. Blindsided and emotional, Adam raises his glass as the brothers toast their partnership. It's late when Sarah steers Amber towards the hospital cafeteria where the Braverman women have set up an impromptu baby shower. There are a lot of tears as each woman continues a tradition started by Camille, reading out pages of mothering advice that they've assembled into a special book for Amber.
