TRAMA

Il corpo di un neonato viene trovato in un cassonetto. Benson e Stabler risalgono alla madre, che afferma di essere stata stuprata e di non sapere di essere incinta.

Benson and Stabler take on an abandoned baby case where a college-aged daughter of a local politician is the suspected mother. Ella, the brilliant and attractive 20 year-old suspected of abandoning a healthy baby boy, fiercely denies the SVU's strong allegations, but when a serious infection requires medical treatment, she lets her guard down and confesses to not one but two incidences of abandoning a newborn, the first resulting in the child's death. With Stabler taking leave to visit his family, Benson is left searching for a reason for these heinous crimes as Dr. Huang runs some tests on the fairly healthy baby boy. Benson fails in prying any paternity information from Ella, but when Dr. Huang's test results show that the baby is the offspring of Ella and her father, Benson has all the disgusting proof she needs. When confronted, Ella and her father Everett profess their sick love for each other after being apart for 18 years since her birth, and it becomes quite clear the babies had been discarded to protect Everett's political career. With the groggy confession on record, Ella is charged with child abandonment, but in court, Everett testifies to driving her crazy and it begins to look more and more like a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict. Dr. Huang testifies to the possibility of intense hormonal changes after pregnancy before the jury has had enough to find Ella "not guilty by reason of insanity." Benson vents her frustration to Novak regarding the legality of relatives to participate in a consensual sexual relationship and insists they try Ella for murder two for her first child, but Novak is probably right in saying that either way Ella will be in governmental custody whether it be a psych ward or prison.
