TRAMA
Un aereo passeggeri cade in Colorado: il team di Hotch è chiamato per indagare sulle misteriose e sospette circorstanze dell'incidente. Il caso porta Kate vicino casa, a contatto con una vecchia tragedia familiare.
On a routine commercial flight from Pittsburgh to Phoenix, a plane loses contact with the outside world and crashes. 151 people, on their way to weddings, reunions, or just going home – all perished. Was it an accident? Or in this post 9-11 world, is terrorism the culprit? Miraculously, there was one survivor – the co-pilot. His wife is ecstatic but other passengers and the BAU themselves wonder – is it really a miracle? Or was the crash an inside job? The co-pilot had a history of depression and he'd been off his meds for months. Maybe he crashed the plane on purpose? The BAU keeps this on their list of possibilities. The BAU studies the plane remnants, trying to identify how it crashed. At first, they think a missile may have shot it down, but the way the plane broke up disputes that notion. It looks like the wings were deployed for landing mid-flight. How did that happen? There are a lot of safeguards against that. The only way a plane's wings would deploy mid-flight is pilot error – or if it was done on purpose. Kate, the new member of the team, strives to keep her composure despite her past history with tragedy. Her sister and her brother in law died in 9-11. She's been raising their daughter, now a teenager, ever since. On the ground, an agent from Homeland Security assists the team with their investigation. When the BAU interview one of the few witnesses to the crash, he warns them against Homeland Security, saying they're not all playing for the same team. Eventually, the co-pilot is ruled out as his background check and interview prove him innocent. Garcia combs through texts and email messages from all the deceased passengers, looking for irregularities. She finds a recent text to one deceased passenger, a nurse, which referenced Robert J. Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. The text read: "I am become Death. The Destroyer of Worlds. " The BAU is convinced that this angry missive came from the UnSub. And that he, not the pilot, was controlling the doomed plane. The UnSub went on a blind date with the nurse 8 years ago. And ever since he was rejected, he's been building software to hack into plane navigation systems and wreak his revenge. The FAA orders all planes in the air to land until the BAU figures out the identity of the mystery hacker. All the planes follow suit except one. It won't land and it's been out of communication for 11 minutes. Does the BAU have another tragedy on their hands? The BAU discover the UnSub in his private lair, holding a control system linking him to the navigation of the missing flight. It seems his old blind date wasn't his only target. He wants to take down this new flight as well. Luckily, the BAU is able to shoot and kill him before he runs the plane and its passengers into certain death. The plane is able to land safely, saving hundreds of lives. While one crisis is averted, Kate knows from experience that tragedy can come at any time. She calls her niece from the crash site, reminding her that even in tragedy, there is a reason to keep living.
