TRAMA
Il Dipartimento di Polizia di Atlanta chiama la squadra di Hotch ad indagare su una serie di delitti eseguiti con modalità assai bizzarre.
A Georgia reporter with no history of mental illness walks blindly into highway traffic, batting the air around him screaming, "Get off me!" When he's killed by an oncoming car, is it a simple case of a mental breakdown? Or should the BAU get involved? The BAU heads to Atlanta to investigate. The victim was a local reporter who was last writing a piece on vaccinations. He also had a nasty heroin addiction. Might be an open and shut case but the BAU knows there's always more underneath the surface. Soon, another crime is reported. An Atlanta entomology professor goes missing. He's been abducted by the UnSub. Trapped in a coffin-like box, the victim screams as the UnSub buries him in his own obsession, a pile of bugs. There's a saying about loving your work but this is too much. Yet, this UnSub is more social than most. He's in a support group for his delusions, eager to find others who share his condition. The UnSub sees bugs crawling underneath his skin, causing him to scratch until he gets close to the bone. He befriends a woman in the support group and the two go home together. But the BAU sniffed out this same group, interviewing the group leader. They finally convince her to give out the name of the one person in her group who most gets under her skin - the group member who seems secretive and potentially dangerous. It's Joel – the UnSub. Through their investigation, the BAU decipher that Joel (the UnSub) worked at the Center for Disease Control, CDC, in Atlanta. Forced to get vaccinations for his job, Joel's experience with a needle in his arm led his to extreme skin-related delusions. The UnSub wants his victims to itch. So he injects them with the same bugs he imagines crawling underneath his own skin. Joel figures out that his group leader has ratted on him. He captures her about to commit her to the same fate, but the BAU arrive just in time. They save the support group leader from being another victim, stopping the UnSub's killing spree. This UnSub was consumed by visions. But the pain he experienced, was real.
