TRAMA
La squadra ha un compito particolarmente arduo: capire se alcuni omicidi molto diversi tra loro avvvenuti in Montana hanno un denominatore comune, e quindi un unico colpevole.
It's every parent's worst nightmare. You lose your focus for a second and your child runs off, out of your sight. Are they nearby, hiding? Or will they never be seen again? On the night before Halloween, a young boy runs off in a pumpkin patch, scaring his mom half to bits. Luckily, she finds him. But the boy's discovery is the real fright. Another boy in a skeleton costume, wan and beaten, is lying on the ground. All he can say is: "Let me out!" It's another case for the BAU. The crew discovers there's a pattern of missing children on Halloween, all young boys, around 10 years old, who disappear on Halloween and aren't found until the following Halloween, a year later. The first boy died, too sick from his injuries. The second boy is ill but he'll make it. Each had muscle atrophy, signs of being beaten and splinters. The BAU deciphers that the boys were kept in a wooden box. Trapped. Beaten. But someone made sure they ate. The problem is – there's already a man behind bars for the first crime. Derek and Kate go behind bars to meet the culprit. He's definitely freaky - a confirmed pedophile with a host of crimes. But through their questioning, Derek and Kate are sure that his man didn't kill the first boy who was abducted. He just confessed. Now they must find the real culprit, before a third boy is abducted this Halloween. That night, kids everywhere sneak out of the house, wanting to cause a little mischief. One young boy goes out with his friends to egg some houses. A neighbor catches them, scaring them off. The boys scatter, except for one who hides in the bushes. For a moment, he's safe. But then suddenly, a man in a skeleton costume follows him, throwing him down to the ground. Next thing he knows, the boy is forced to get into a wooden box, deep within the ground. The UnSub closes the box, places a large wooden plank over the box and then drives his large car over the spot, concealing the box and the boy's location. Will the BAU find the young victim before he's forced to endure a year in captivity? The BAU talks to press, describing their UnSub. Soon enough, a young woman comes into the office. She saw the BAU on the news and she has a lead. The woman believes that the UnSub is her brother, Johnny. Growing up, her brother used to lock her in closets. Sometimes, he smothered her. They grew up in a volatile family with an abusive father. The night their dad left the family was Halloween. When her brother misbehaved, her father locked him in an old trunk – much like the current UnSub is doing to young boys now. Hotchner and Kate go to visit Johnny's mother. Eventually, the mother confesses that after witnessing her husband abuse her kids one too many times, she hit her husband over the head with a crowbar and killed him. Johnny witnessed the attack and helped his mom bury the father. That's enough to make anyone go off the rails. Meanwhile, with the mother's help, the BAU finds Johnny. They handcuff him, searching for the abducted boy. At first, Johnny refuses to divulge the boy's location. But with his mother's pleading, he confesses. When the car is moved, they find the boy, his mouth taped and hands bound, lying in the wooden box. He's been through a horrifying ordeal, but he's safe now. This was the first year Hotchner missed Halloween with his own family. But now that the case is solved and another young boy is returned to his family, he can go home content, happy to kiss his son goodnight.
