TRAMA

Alcune ragazze vengono rapite in Nigeria dall'organizzazione Boko Haram.

On a Nigerian country road, a group of armed soldiers led by Abdul Hakeem kidnaps a girls' soccer team. Back on K Street, Charlie flirts with a young barista while picking up her coffee on the way to work. She's not thrilled to find Nick waiting for her on the street. Convinced he's up to no good, Charlie pickpockets his phone and continues on to work, where she downloads all the data off his SIM card. Then it's off to the first team huddle of the day, prepping for the president's meeting with China's President Chu at Camp David. Just as Charlie learns, to her surprise, that new CIA Director Campbell is putting together Chu's psych profile himself, Boko Haram posts video of the kidnapping and claims credit. Charlie and DP are present when Navarro briefs the president on President Chu; neither man is happy when the president dismisses them so the PDB can continue. Four hours ago, Boko Haram demanded ransom from the West, threatening to sell the girls into slavery. Knowing the corrupt Nigerian government is too scared to act, and she can't put American boots on the ground, the president tells Charlie to keep working to pinpoint the girls' location. Afterwards, at the president's bidding, Charlie apologizes to Navarro for her curt tone. Regardless, he's incredulous to learn the president asked Charlie's team to look for the kidnapped girls - everyone knows there's nothing they can do to help them! Back in the Oval Office, the president asks her husband, Marshall, why he's requesting confidential papers on the attack in Kabul that killed their son, Aaron. Since it's a matter of national security, the Senate is still preparing its report. With no bandwidth to argue about the matter, the president asks Marshall to stand down and wait. On the way to Camp David, the president tells DP she's worried about the girls; the hardest part about having power is not being able to use it. At the CIA, Maureen finds a photo of a mass grave outside the Nigerian village of Yola containing the bodies of another group of girls abducted by Boko Haram that the U.S. was unable to help. Charlie spies Nick in the hallway, so she returns his phone, telling him to prove he's not her enemy. But what she really wants to know is whether Nick still has assets in Africa - could he get them to work off the grid on an unauthorized mission? If Nick comes through, he'll have made a deposit in Charlie's favor bank. Charlie flashes back five years, when she arrived on Midnight City, a black site ship in international waters. Nick leads her into the bowels of the ship where he's been using a variety of untoward methods to interrogate Fatah, hoping to extract a location on Sheik Hakam. Charlie insists on being present and puts a stop to the proceedings when Nick douses Fatah with gasoline and starts flicking his Zippo. Outside the room, Nick lays into Charlie - she's never to interfere again! Charlie insists what Nick is doing is illegal, and he'll never get the info he's after with his violent methods. At Camp David, the president laments her inability to do anything about the kidnapped girls. It's just the sort of thing President Chu will interpret as a sign of her weakness. Charlie tells her about the mass grave, then suggests there might be something they can do... the president silences her, explaining forgiveness afterwards sometimes trumps permission before. Knowing Lucas is an expert on China, Charlie calls to ask for a list of all Chinese oil interests in Africa, specifically Nigeria, hoping to find the president some leverage. Charlie returns to her apartment, flashing back to happier times with Aaron. It's enough to make her reach for the bourbon, which is when Nick knocks on her door, having procured private military contractor Controlled Outcomes in Lagos. He's not looking for credit from POTUS, but he is interested in his account in Charlie's favor bank. Charlie returns to work to call the president with a plan to save the girls in a way that will never come back on the U.S. After hearing Charlie out, the president meets with President Chu for a skeet shooting session. Once mutual respect is established, the president brings up China's oil interests in Africa, apropos of the area near the Sambisa Forest where the girls are being held. The president's hoping to put forward an American contractor to "work" in the region... Back at the CIA, Charlie and the team are scouring the area around the Sambisa Forest, pinpointing the most likely location for the girls. Knowing Charlie's off the ranch and bypassing his authority at the behest of the president, Navarro pulls her aside to make his displeasure known. As the mission gets underway, Charlie is summoned by a text from Syd, who's worried she's getting too mixed up with Nick and Controlled Outcomes. Despite his knowledge that Nick is deep in the dirt, Syd's investigation of Nick came up clean; he's not sending the anonymous texts to Charlie. Nevertheless, they both know the photo of Charlie, Nick and Fatah could burn POTUS to the ground. Back at the CIA, Charlie's surprised to find Nick in the operations room. He explains that since he set the ball in motion, he wants to see Controlled Outcomes complete their mission - which is successful.
