TRAMA
The most dangerous part of a treasure hunt is after you find it. A sea captain is found dead with a harpoon through his chest. After the body is examined, gold is found in between the captain's teeth. Lucas (Joel David Moore) gets to talk like a pirate and they now have a motive for the murder. Henry (Ioan Gruffudd), Jo (Alana De La Garza) & Detective Hanson search the warehouse, and find artifacts from the "Empress of Africa" a slave ship that Henry's father owned - and where Henry was eventually shot. Henry confides in Abe that the slave ship belonged to his family. Henry had vowed to put an end to everything that his father had built. He flashes back to the night when he had formed a plan to sneak a key down to free the slaves. He blames himself for never making it back with the key and the 300 deaths that followed. Abe (Judd Hirsch) suggests that before Henry blames himself, he needs to find out what really happened to the ship. Jo, Henry & Detective Hanson all attend the captain's memorial at a bar. Henry sets out to find who was on the ship with the captain. He notices that the bartender, Margo (guest star Kate Rogal), has two different colored eyes, heterochromia, and that she is suffering from acute decompression sickness most likely from a recent dive. Irritated, she serves Henry his drink and walks outside. Henry follows. Outside three men are fighting and Henry asks which one of them killed the captain. They start to run and are arrested by Jo and Detective Hanson. At the station, the theory is that one of the crew got greedy and harpooned the captain. While questioning the suspects, Henry finds out that the captain had a map to the ship's whereabouts. After some questioning, they find nothing and let the suspects go. Later, Abe suggests that they break into the warehouse and search for clues about the ship. They suddenly have company. Someone comes in trashing the place. Henry chases the person outside where the police are waiting, including Jo. The intruder turns out to be the captain's partner. Jo covers for Henry and demands to know why he is so obsessive about the ship. Henry tells her that 300 people died on that ship and what happened was a crime. Jo tells Henry to stay in the present. While questioning the captain's partner, they find out that someone wealthy financed the voyage and that a diver had been killed - two huge clues. Jo discovers that the ship's voyage cost millions of dollars and was backed by the wealthy Isaac Monroe (guest star Cuba Gooding Jr.)- their new suspect. They attend a function where the handsome and suave Isaac Monroe is speaking. Jo & Henry introduce themselves and ask about the murder. Mr. Monroe is preoccupied with his fear of public speaking. Isaac begins speaking and reveals that the expedition uncovered seven million dollars in gold. He then stuns everyone when he announces that he is donating all of the proceeds - there goes his motive. Later, Henry is called away and Isaac flirts with Jo. Henry is startled to find Adam at the party. Adam reveals that he knows that Henry was on the "Empress of Africa." He then reveals the pistol that Henry was shot with. Jo walks in and Adam disappears. At the police station, Detective Hanson encourages Jo to go on the date with Isaac Monroe. Clearly attracted to Isaac she agrees. Meanwhile, Henry discovers that the diver who died has the same genetic eye condition as the bartender (Margo), which means they are siblings. Henry realizes that Margo killed the captain in revenge for killing her brother. Henry rushes to find Jo. Meanwhile, Jo is enjoying her date with Isaac who gets romantic with a little wine and Marvin Gaye. Jo excuses herself to use the restroom while Margo creeps up the stairs. Jo comes out of the bathroom to find Isaac lying on the ground unconscious and Margo standing there with a knife. Meanwhile, Henry & Detective Hanson are at Isaac's door but hesitate once they hear the music. Detective Hanson assumes Jo & Isaac are having a romantic moment. Henry disagrees and they burst through the door to find Jo fighting Margo. They arrest Margo and Henry is amused that Jo brought a gun on her date. Later, Isaac asks Jo out on another date. She agrees to leave her gun at home. Later, Henry talks to Isaac about the ship. Isaac reveals what he knows about the "Empress of Africa." A man was shot (Henry) and a key fell from his pocket. The slaves freed themselves and made it to freedom. Only the map and their story survived. Isaac then reveals that he, a descendant, can now tell their story. An emotional Henry thanks him. Later, Adam calls Henry and reveals his theory that the only way out of their curse is to be killed with the same weapon that was used the first time. Henry reveals the pistol in his knapsack. Adam has lost the dagger that killed him but Henry still has the chance to beat the curse. Will Henry test Adam's theory?
